Programme to show and grow council performance kicks off
A new programme aimed at lifting and demonstrating the value of local government kicked off this week, with the first council undergoing independent assessment.
Local Government New Zealand is delighted to announce the appointment of Toby Stevenson, Director of Sapere Research Group and independent company director, as the inaugural chair of the Independent Assessment Board to oversee the new local government ratings system.
Strong support for the new local government standards system shows a desire within the sector to raise performance and deliver better outcomes for communities, Local Government New Zealand President Lawrence Yule says.

New standard announced for council performance
Local Government New Zealand has today issued details of a new independent standards system that measures the performance of local authorities.
Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) has today signalled a new Local Government Excellence Programme, designed to improve the public’s knowledge of the work councils are doing in their communities and to support individual councils to further improve the value they provide to all New Zealanders.
